Where you can find us

Cwmbran boating lake is our home water, where everyone is welcome to view and enjoy the impressive range of marine models that can be seen sailing  on Sunday mornings and Wednesday afternoons (weather permitting)

In addition to our regular Sunday and Wednesday sessions, during our open day events you may also see cars, trucks, planes and other models in action.

Visitors are encouraged to chat with our members, learn about the hobby, and experience the friendly atmosphere that makes our club so special.

The Boathouse Café, located adjacent to our sailing area, offers a good range of food and hot drinks for those colder days, as well as cold drinks and ice lollies during the summer months.

For visitors with limited mobility, a gently sloping ramp leads down to the main lake sailing area, making it accessible for most people.

The site features one large lake for the more seaworthy vessels, along with two smaller lakes ideal for models that may benefit from a more "hands‑on"  approach.

Public toilets are conveniently located nearby.

Types of Models

The club is open to all kinds of models, including:

  • Radio‑controlled boats

  • Cars

  • Tanks

  • Trucks

  • Planes

  • And many more

Please note:

  • No IC‑powered models are permitted on the ponds at Cwmbran Boating Lake.

When We Meet

CMS usually has a variety of models on display when we meet and sail:

  • Sunday: 09:00 – 12:00

  • Wednesday: 13:00 – 15:30

  • All sessions are weather permitting.

Our Approach

The emphasis at CMS is not on modelling ability or technical skill, but on the enjoyment of the hobby.

  • Newcomers with little or no experience are always welcome, and our members are always happy to share advice and help others get started.

  • It’s always good to see members passing on their knowledge and helping others develop their skills — after all, the novices of today will be the experts of tomorrow.
