Places to Visit

Situated on the outskirts of the beautiful rural village of Coed Y Paen, Blackthorn Meadow is home to two self-catering holiday bungalows - Blackthorn Lodge and Hawthorn Lodge.

It is only 2 minutes drive or 10 minutes walk to the Carpenters' Arms Public House & Restaurant (currently closed to ill health) and Llandegfedd Lake's Visitor and Activity Centre.

Llandegfedd Lake is the home of the Llandegfedd Fly Fishing Association but in addition to fishing the lake offers lots of other water sports activities including paddle and pedal boarding, canoe and Kayaksailing, open water swimming, wind surfing, cold water dipping and bird watching to name but a few. If you fancy something a little less energetic why not try a trip down the canal at Goytre Wharf.

There are also two local golf courses - less than 5 - 10 minutes drive - to choose from including Woodlake Park Golf and Country Club and Greenmeadow Golf and Country Club both of which also hire out rooms for weddings and other get-togethers.

Usk town offers a range of small traditional retail shops, coffee shops, pubs and restaurants. However, less than four miles away is the more modern and larger Cwmbran shopping precinct where you will find numerous large retailers including Asda, Sainsburys, Morrisons, Iceland, Boots and lots more.

A Vue Cinema and a host of cafes and restaurants can also be found in the Cwmbran Town Centre while the newly revamped Greenmeadow Community Farm can be found on the outskirts.

There are also lots of other local attractions in Torfaen that you might like to visit including:
