Places to Visit

Situated on the outskirts of the beautiful rural village of Coed Y Paen, Blackthorn Meadow is home to two self-catering holiday bungalows - Blackthorn Lodge and Hawthorn Lodge.

It is only 2 minutes drive or 10 minutes walk to the Carpenters' Arms Public House & Restaurant and Llandegfedd Reservoir’s Visitor and Watersports Centre.

Llandegfedd Reservoir is the home of the Llandegfedd Fly Fishing Association but in addition to fishing the reservoir offers lots of activities including sailing, wind surfing and bird watching. If you fancy a trip down a canal you can also visit Goytre Wharf.

There are also two local golf courses - less than 5 - 10 minutes drive - to choose from including Woodlake Park Golf and Country Club and Greenmeadow Golf and Country Club both of which also hire out rooms for weddings and other get-togethers.

Usk town offers a range of small traditional retail shops, coffee shops, pubs and restaurants. However, less than four miles away is the more modern and larger Cwmbran shopping precinct where you will find numerous large retailers including Asda, Sainsburys, W H Smith, Boots, Top Shop, Evans and lots more.

A Vue Cinema and a host of cafes and restaurants can also be found in the Cwmbran Town Centre while Greenmeadow Community Farm can be found on the outskirts.
