Transport - What can we do about it?
What needs to change?
• Torfaen Youth ‘on board’ with transport
• Appearance
• Prices
• Drivers – nicer attitude, they’re providing a service
• Time tables more user friendly
• Bigger buses
• Cwmbran – Malpas – more frequent
• Train prices for youths too high
• Taxi drivers (self employed, can’t be changed)
How?
• Help the bus companies ‘pimp their rides’
- People who help get a free bus pass
- Other youths in area get reduced prices
- Sponsored paintball fights with buses as canvas to raise money for charity
• Young people help to interview prospective bus drivers
• Bigger print on timetables
• Post new / changed timetables to houses in the area
• Electronic timetables to show next 3/ 4 buses
• Bus shelters (more of them)
• Cheaper weekly passes
• Local taxi drivers fees supplemented by councils anyway they can to help make taxis cheaper.
• Kids given a day in the life of a ticket collector to understand why they are so miserable
• Radios for buses - music
Who should be responsible?
• Local councillor for transport
• Council
• Bus companies
• Young people
