European Internet Safety Day
9 February 2010
The Government is launching a new safety campaign for children when they are using the internet. A Green Cross Code for the internet has been devised and children will be encouraged to report inappropriate content. Concern about the dangers linked to young people using the internet when they are unsupervised has been discussed for a number of years. The report published today states that 'Of the 99% of children who have access to the internet, 18% have come across harmful or inappropriate content online', more on this story can be found on:
It is hoped that the term 'Zip it, Block it, Flag it' will become well used in schools so that children will automatically stop and think before putting personal details on the computer, block unwanted messages and let responsible adults know when they come across inappropriate materials on
the internet.
Social networks and web services are coming under increasing pressure to show that they are doing something to tackle inappropriate content, cyber-bullying and grooming online.
Look out for Torfaen's new Info-mobile which will be out and about on that day
