Introduction to the Torfaen Young People’s Music and Arts Trust Fund

Cllr Colette Thomas

Founder of the Trust

Councillor Colette Thomas

Mayor of Torfaen 2001/02

I am delighted to introduce Torfaen Young People’s Music and Arts Trust Fund.

Torfaen already has a fund for young athletes in the County Borough, and there was nothing for musicians and artists. I was keen to put that right, especially after hearing such a wealth of musical talent at concerts I attended as Mayor. Torfaen has many young people excelling in the arts and performing at every level with many showing enthusiasm and commitment as well as much outstanding talent.

This fund has been established to advance the education of young people in music and the arts, and in order to provide facilities for young people for recreation and leisure time occupation involving, or connected with music and the arts.

The over-riding objective is to promote the social welfare of the young people of Torfaen and to improve the conditions of life.

The Administrators of the Trust seek funding support from local businesses, Community Councils and Councillors as well as organising fund raising events.

A board of eight Trustees who were appointed by Torfaen County Borough Council will assess application for grants. All Trustees bring appropriate individual expertise to the Trust, which will ensure that the money is used to a maximum benefit.

On this page you will find details of the Trust’s management, examples of applicants eligible to apply to the Trust, along with an application form. I hope that this will inspire you to make an application to the fund and that it will be successful or that you decide to make a generous donation in support of the fund. I together with fellow Trustees look forward to having the opportunity to appreciating the talent of the young people that this fund has helped support.

Councillor Colette A Thomas.
