I'm worried about my GCSE's. I'm revising loads but my parents say I should be working harder and that I'll be throwing my life away if I don't do well. What if I don't pass?
Work as hard as you can at your revision, but if you don't get the grades you hoped for, it isn't the end of the world. Talk to your Careers Adviser as soon as possible so they can go through all your options with you, and help you draw up a 'back up' plan, Vocational courses in school and college, or work based training, may provide you with another way of achieving your career goal.
I've thought about what I want to be when I'm older but there's so many choices I can't decide. I'm afraid I'll leave it too late and not get a good job. What can I do?
Don't panic! Arrange to have a confidential interview with a Careers Adviser. They will go through the range of options available and help you decide what you are going to do next. They will provide you with a Career Plan which will outline where you can find useful information, and what actions you need to take. There are lots of ways of getting a good job, and some people don't decide what they want to do until later on in life. Work experience is an excellent opportunity for you to try out your career ideas before deciding what path you are going to take to reach this career goal. The important thing is to get good information and advice. You'll find it much easier then to make decisions. Contact you careers adviser in school/college for an appointment, or the Careers Centre see back page for contact details
I am due to leave school soon and am worried that I might not be able to get a job. Can you help?
If you are looking for work or training it is important that you register with your local Careers Centre as soon as possible. They can inform you of any opportunities that come up that may be of interest to you. We will also send you a vacancy bulletin every fortnight so you can see the jobs available in the local area. If any of these are of interest you can speak to your Careers Adviser who will help you take the next step, or the Careers Centre see back page for contact details.

My friends and me are bored. There's an age limit on the park where we live but we ignore it. The neighbours are always moaning at us saying we make too much noise and sometimes we vandalise the park but there's nothing else to do. Is there anywhere to go?
Young people often complain about having nothing to do and nowhere to go. There are places to go and things to do in Torfaen. Have a look at Webster the council's website. That will give you details of the many activities that you can get involved in locally. Start your own club, band or group, arrange your own dance group or meeting. Have you ever thought about helping out in your community volunteering is a very rewarding activity. Contact Torfaen Voluntary Alliance to find out more. Contact details on back page.
The more you put into life and the more effort you make, the more you will get out of it and the more you will enjoy your life!
