Gelligravog Farmhouse B&B

Set in 32 acres on the side of Mynydd Maen, above Upper Cwmbran, Gwent, is a traditional Welsh Longhouse that was once part of the Estate of the Hanbury family, who developed the famous Pontypool Japan Ware.  It has been extensively modernised by its present owners to offer comfortable accomodation. Gelligravog B&B is open all year. Horses and pets accomodated by arrangement. We also cater for campers.

Gelligravog Farmhouse (circa 1610), set in 32 acres on the side of Mynydd Maen, above Upper Cwmbran, Gwent, is a traditional Welsh Longhouse that was once part of the Estate of the Hanbury family, who developed the famous Pontypool Japan Ware.

The Farm

Double room with en-suite bathroomGelligravog Farmhouse provides guests with a family suite with two bedrooms rooms and its own bathroom, and another double room with en suite bathroom.

 

All rooms are tastefully furnished and have colour TV with DVD, tea making facilities, a fridge and a small library of books and films.

 

The Farmhouse kitchen and dining roomGuests can also enjoy dining in the large farmhouse kitchen with adjoining conservatory and outside patio decking leading onto the rear garden with its panoramic views over the Monmouthshire countryside.

 

To the front ,which is south facing, there is a large surfaced yard with two surrounding stable blocks, allowing ample secure parking.

 

 

The FarmhouseThe house is surrounded by 32 acres of pasture and woodland which has been replanted under a Forestry Commission Woodland Grant Scheme.

 

Gelligravog is also in the coveted Tir Gofal (land care) environmental scheme run by the Countryside Council for Wales and is totally organic.

 

 

 

The Area

Gelligravog Farmhouse is in situated on the east side of Mynydd Maen, in the Border County of Gwent. It is decidedly rural yet only 10 minutes drive from the town of Cwmbran with its modern shopping centre and sports facilities. There are numerous golf courses nearby including the Celtic Manor, venue for the 2010 Ryder Cup.

 

Autumn leaves on the lane

To the east you will find the rolling green countryside of Monmouthshire with many castles; the plush valleys of the Usk and the Wye; the Forest of Dean and the delightful towns of Monmouth and Chepstow.

 

Easily accessible to the north are the market town of Abergavenny, the World Heritage site of Blaenavon (with its famous Big Pit Mining Museum), and the rugged Black Mountains and Brecon Beacons.

 

 

Drive south to Newport with its famous Transporter Bridge, and Tredegar House Country Park.

To the west you can simply walk up Mynydd Maen for outstanding views from the Beacons to the Bristol Channel.

You will find many things to do on our doorstep. Mynydd Maen and Blaen Bran Community Woodland offer excellent walking, mountain biking and pony trekking.

 

There are two pubs within walking distance, one offers excellent food and the other offers locally brewed real ales.

 

We are within 100m of the Cambrian Way long distance footpath.

 

You could walk to what is arguably the Oldest Golf Club in Wales (Established 1875), but it may be a bit far to carry your clubs!
