Blackthorne Lodge is less than five minutes walk from Coed-y-Paen village which offers a picturesque village Church, a Country Pub with an outstanding restaurant |and country walks.

 

There are also three local golf courses - less than 5-10 minutes drive - to choose from including Woodlake Park Golf and Country Club|, Greenmeadow Golf and Country Club| and Alice Springs Golf Club| all of which also hire out rooms for weddings and other get-togethers. 

 

Situated within 10 minutes walking distance of Llandegfedd Reservoir| home of the Llandegfedd Fly Fishing Association| the area offers lots of activies including sailing|, wind surfing, fishing, bird watching| and cruises. If you fancy a trip down a canal you can also visit Gotre Wharf|.

 

Usk  town offers a range of small traditional retail shops, coffee shops, pubs and restaurants. However, less than four miles away is the more modern and larger Cwmbran shopping| precinct where you will find numerous large retailers including Asda, Sainsburys, David Evans, W H Smith, Mothercare, Boots, Top Shop, Evans and lots more. 

 

A Vue Cinema| and a host of cafes and restaurants can also be found in the Cwmbran Town Centre| while Greenmeadow Community Farm| can be found on the outskirts.

  1. Bird Watching Permits

  March 1st saw the start of a new 'Permit Year' for birdwatchers at Llandegfedd Reservoir. Permits

  can be obtained from the Rangers Office situated at the Dam end, just inside the gates to the

  sailing club. The cost of the permit for 2011 was £8:00 (day permits may be available from the

  Rangers Office).
