Success for Torfaen County Swimming
as 9 qualify for British Youth Nationals
With the cut off date for the 2009 British National Youth Championships now passed, Torfaen County Swimming has once again placed several swimmers into this meet. Last year 6 swimmers qualified competing in 14 events and this year 9
swimmers have the opportunity to compete against the best in Britain in a total of 22 events
including a relay.
This rise in numbers is testament to the
hard work and dedication of these swimmers
in putting themselves through a demanding training schedule that includes up to 20 hours of pool time per week before and after school.
When asked about the achievements of the squad Head Coach Gareth McNarry was very
quick to praise the swimmers again saying, “It is a great achievement for all these swimmers to qualify for this meet. It proves that their dedication to their sport is second to none
and they now have the opportunity to go and test themselves against the best in Britain.
Torfaen has always produced talented swimmers who have made Welsh and British Teams, and through this group and an emerging group of younger swimmers we are looking to recreate that level of success.”
