2006-07

Rumney away 6th Jan 2007

Croesy face a stern test on Saturday against second placed Rumney who put 52 points on us at Woodland Road in the first game of the season.  Turn outs at training have been poor throughout the holiday period but despite this Croesy field not far short of their strongest side.  The unlucky players must undoubtedly be Jim Sergeant, Richard Gibbins and Jake Nash, all of whom are regular trainers but who find themselves on the bench on Saturday.  The second row and back row are the 2 areas where Croesy have strength in depth and and there can be no complaints about the selection of fit again Mark Smith and Dragons Under 20 player Tom Price in the second row where Croesy will be looking to dominate the lineout.  Similarly, the back row of Chris Williams, Paul Hicks and Gavin Howells is, despite the lack of a genuine open-side, as good as Croesy has fielded in recent times.

Behind the scrum there is a first start for new signing Rhys Prendergast on the wing in an otherwise familiar backline.  The full side is as follows:

  1. Marc Watkins
  2. Simon Jones
  3. Justin Smith
  4. Mark Smith
  5. Tom Price
  6. Chris Williams
  7. Paul Hicks
  8. Gavin Howells
  9. Ritchie Williams
  10. Gavin Holmes
  11. Rhys Prendergast
  12. Matthew Entwistle (Capt)
  13. Scott Copsey
  14. Stuart Fitzgerald
  15. David Davies

Subs: Jim Sergeant; Richard Gibbins; Jake Nash; Anthony Gardner.

All Players meet at the club at 12.00.
