Croesyceiliog 22 Rhydyfelyn 30
26 April 2006
Croesy missed the opportunity to dispel any lingering relegation fears with this disappointing home defeat against a Rhydyfelin side who themselves had nothing to play for but showed far more commitment.
Everything started brightly for Croesy as they crossed for 2 tries in the opening minutes and it looked at that stage as though they would run away with it. Captain Anthony Axford led the way by forcing his way over wide out. Right wing John Misljen followed shortly after to bag his 7th try in as many games. Stand in outside half Darryl Carter converted both.
But the visitors were soon level. Croesy were unable to cope with Rhydyfelin's driving maul as they forced their way over. And the man who did all the damage in the away fixture back in October their giant wing scored for the second. Croesy were still looking the better side at this point and restored their advantage before the break with a try from left wing Matt Hiatt.
There was no indication of how badly things would go wrong in the second half. Croesy only troubled the scorer once in the second half through a Carter penalty and by the time Rhydyfelin scored their final try of the evening the scorer had actually left the ground in disgust at how badly Croesy were playing. There were few plus points for Croesy after the break. They were forced by their inability to secure and retain possession to defend for longs periods. Ok the defence held firm for long periods but they went so long without the ball that scores were bound to come eventually. Croesy played as though the season had ended at half-time but the truth is if they fail to win on Saturday and other results involving Rumney and Brynithel go the wrong way Croesy could still be relegated. Croesy's final game is at home to Llantwit Fardre on Saturday.
