Rhymney away 20th Oct 2007

Rhymney 21 Croesyceiliog 30

Croesyceiliog moved to the top of the table after a well-deserved victory at Rhymney. A close first half was dominated by penalties and missed chances for both sides before Scott Copsey crossed for an unconverted try just prior to the break. Half-time arrived with Croesyceiliog just behind 9 points to 8.

The second half however was dominated by Croesyceiliog. Rob Baldock started the scoring with an opportunist try as fellow centre Shane Williams performed a crunching tackle on the Rhymney full back just under the home team's posts following a high hanging kick by Matthew Entwistle. This was Rob's first try for the club and was converted by Entwistle. Croesy soon scored two further tries by prop Marc Watkins and young winger Drew Mcgee in only his second appearance in the 1st XV. Both tries were converted and with the score at 27-9 Croesy were heading for an easy victory. Credit however must go to Rhymney who scored two late tries either side of a further Entwistle penalty.

With top 2 sides Abergavenny and Brynmawr both suffering surprise defeats, the final score of 30-21 to Croesy and the bonus point lifted the club from 3rd place to the top of the table.
