Pontllanfraith away 16th Feb 08

Pontllanfraith 19 Croesyceiliog 19

Croesy travelled to lowly Pontllanfraith with a side containing some fringe players and giving a debut to full back Dale Nash. In an error strewn first half Croesy failed to get going, quickly falling behind to a converted try under the posts following initial pressure. Croesy attempted to exert pressure but quickly fell further behind when losing possession in the Pontllanfraith 22 a kick through and chase resulted in a 2nd converted try. Some poor refereeing decisions did not help either side, but Croesy hit further trouble following the sin binning of centre Matthew Entwhistle for what was a hard but legitimite tackle. Despite this the first half finished without Croesy conceding any further points at 14-0 to Pontllanfraith.

Croesy made several changes at half time but Pontllanraith started the second half the stronger and were unlucky not to score a try, being denied by a foot in touch. Shortly after Pontllanfraith worked another overlap for a third try, this time uncoverted. At 19-0 down Croesy looked down and out, but the remainder of the match was spent almost entirely in Pontllanfraiths 22. Constant pressure resulted in tries for Gavin Holmes, Jake Nash and David Davies, two of which were converted to bring Croesy level. The final 10 minutes were constant pressure with Croesy spurning at least one penalty kick at goal, but the combination of a strong defence and the refusal of the referee to penalise the offside and handling in the ruck left the game ending in a stalemate at 19 points apiece.
