2006-07

Hafodrynys 02 Nov 06

Croesyceiliog 2nds 51 Hafodrynys 0

With no first team league game for 3 weeks Croesy took the chance to give a run out to the seconds and after a slow start eventually ran away with a comfortable win.  The only regular first teamers to play were, in the forwards: Richard Gibbins who was on the bench on Saturday and needed a run out; Chris Williams who needs game time after coming back from a broken arm and Ritchie Williams who is a scrum half but who played the first 15 minutes at prop while waiting for other players to arrive; and in the backs: Matthew Entwistle; Gavin Holmes, who in fairness has only just broken into the firsts; and John Miljen who only came on with about 15 minutes to go.

Croesy ran in 9 tries in total, 3 in the first half and 6 in the second.  Once the team gelled and used the pace of the backs they played some attractive rugby, Misljen in particular scoring 2 scorchers when he came on. The support play and continuity between forwards and backs was good with Gibbins and open-side Paul Fisher showing up well in the forwards.  Scrum-half Ieuan Wakefield made his first start of the season after breaking his hand during the summer and had an excellent game.  His crisp pass got the backs going forward and he is undoubtedly going to push Ritchie Williams for the first team spot before too long.

Croesy's scorers were:

Tries: Matthew Entwistle (2), John Misljen (2), Jake Nash, Richard Gibbins, Ieuan Wakefield, Nolan Nicklin, Liam Crowley,

Conversions: Matthew Entwistle (3)

The team was:

Drew Barber, Simon Jones, Ritchie Williams (Nathan Willis), Richard Gibbins, Jim Sargeant, Chris Williams, Paul Fisher, Jake Nash, Ieuan Wakefield, Gavin Holmes, John Berrow Rhys Pendergast), Matthew Entwistle, Nolan Nicklin (Adrian Smith), Liam Crowley (John Miljen), Chris Wright (Jarred Hynhem).
