Rugby Update 281106
A combination of the Autumn internationals and bad weather has curtailed most of our rugby for the past month. Our last game was a mid-week friendly against Division One East side Newport Saracens in which we acquitted ourselves pretty well before eventually going down 29-5. We started the better and had all the pressure in the opening 20 minutes, eventually leading to a try for wing John Misljen. Saracens equalised before half-time and added 4 unanswered tries in the second half. Despite the second half score we played well throughout and in terms of territory and possession the game was fairly even. Sarries went away with it when we started making a few changes to give our squad players a run. It was good to see a couple of our old players Lee williams and Nathan Powell back at the club even if they were in Sarries colours.
Our scheduled league game with Llantwit Fardre on 18th Nov fell victim to the weather. Although we were willing to play, the opposition coach decided there was too much water on the first team pitch and the "cabage patch" was too small.
This Saturday is a big game for the "Croes" as we entertain fellow-strugglers Abergavenny. There has always been a lot of rivalry between the two clubs harking back to the infamous "World War Three at Bailey Park" when Croesy knocked Aber out of the cup despite having two players sent off early on. And then there was the Mikey Lill incident when Mike who had retired from playing at the time but helped us out because we were short, got hit from behind by a punch while stood at a lineout. Our players refused to go back to their club afterwards.
Anyway this Saturday is possibly more important than any of those earlier encounters as a win for us would take us off the bottom above Aber. We are hoping to get a good crowd there to cheer the lads on.
