Sportsmans Dinner
10 March 2006
The club has received lots of positive feedback from people who attended Friday's dinner at the Greenmeadow Golf Club saying how much they enjoyed themselves. The company was good, the food was good and the guest speakers, Paul Turner and Leigh Jones went down really well. It would have been nice to have had more people from the club at the function, but this is the first time we have tried a venture like this in several years so hopefully they will hear how good it was this time and make the effort to come to the next one.
A thoroughly deserved Life Membership presentation was made to Peter Lloyd who brought the house down with his sincere commitment to watching the Dragons in future....until he found out the price of the entrance fee!!
Club President John Attwell was gob-smacked to see the framed poster of Mike Tyson he had found in his daughter's attic go for £45 at auction, particularly after his wife had told him he would be lucky to get £1 for it. He also donated a signed Welsh rugby jersey which went for £120.
Among the guests were 3 post-graduate students from Cardiff who are about to launch a new rugby magazine "The Clubhouse" aimed at clubs in the Asda Welsh Leagues, particularly Divisions 1-3. They brought a draft of their first edition and were able to get some useful feedback. There is certainly a market for such a magazine and this looks an exciting venture which we are sure to hear more about.
The next event on the club calendar is a Golf Day, also at Greenmeadow, on Friday 28th April. Look out for more news on that shortly.
