Promotion and Relegation 2005/06 Season
I've heard all sorts of rumours about what is going to happen with promotion and relegation at the end of this season. So here, to set the record straight, are the facts straight from the WRU Handbook.
Premier Division
The bottom 2 clubs will be relegated to Div 1. The 14th placed club will play off against the Div 1 Champions to determine the 14th place.
The Premier Division will be reduced to 14 teams in 2006/07.
Division 1
The tob club in Div 1 will play off against the 14th placed club in the Premier Division. The winner will take the remaining place in the Premier Division (subject to that club satisfying the entry / participation criteria to the Prem Div).
No club will be relegated from Division 1 at the end of the Season.
Division 1 will be split into Division 1 West and East in 2006/07 with 12 clubs in each Division.
Division 2 East & West
The top 3 clubs in each Division will be promoted to Division 1 level. The bottom 2 clubs will be relegated to Division 3 level.
There will be 12 teams in each Division 2 in 2006/07 (a reduction of 2 teams)
Division 3 - East, West, South East, South West
The Champion club in each Division 3 league will be promoted to Division 2 level. In addition the two runners up with the best playing records in the 4 Division 3 leagues will be promoted to Division 2 level. The 2 District J clubs will transfer to Division 4 North. The bottom 2 clubs in each Division 3 league will be relegated. In addition the 2 3rd from bottom sides with the worst recordwill be relegated.
Similar rules apply in the lower Divisions.
