Cockerels News 7 June 2006
Apologies for the lack of updates recently. May was a quiet month for the Cockerels apart for the tour to Benedorm and I don't think there are many stories from tour that I can repeat on a family website.
Despite the rumours, we have not been relegated. We finished 3rd from bottom of the league ( click here for final table|) but owing to the restructuring of division one it was only 2 down this year, Brynmawr and Brynithel.
For those who are interested, touch rugby is taking place every Wednesday down on the cabbage patch. There are no changing facilities, so come ready to play. We meet at 6.30.
The annual presentation evening takes place at the club on Saturday 17th June. Wales are playing Argentina that night ko 7.30, so the first part of the night will be watching the game, with a buffet at half-time. This will be followed by presentations, before discoing till 12ish. Anyone wanting (free) tickets should see Jon Berrow (players) or Andy Mason/Colin Wilmott (other members). Although it is free we need to know how many are coming so that we can order the buffet.
Training is due to re-commence on Monday 3rd July.
It is confirmed that we will be running a second team next season which will play in the Pontypool and District League. More news will follow about coaching arrangements but please spread the word as we need to recruit a few more players to make it a success.
Discussions are currently taking place with some of our ex-players (old codgers) about setting up a former players club which will meet a few times a year (not just at funerals as it seems at present). When more details are known I will post something on the site. One of the hardest jobs will be contacting the hundreds of players who have played for Croesy over the years. As a website reader we will be calling on your help.
We are in the process of renewing our sponsorship deals and match programme adverts. If you would like to sponsor the club or advertise in our programme or on this website or you know someone who might be interested, please contact me, my details are below.
Later on in the summer our website hosts at Webster are changing the style of the "community portal" which will mean a different look to the site and may mean going "off air" for a little while for them to copy our data across.
If anyone has any ideas for improvements to the site or wants to contribute please get in touch.
That's it for now folks, I will do my best to keep you up to date with all that's going on.
Regards
