GeneralNews

Cockerels Comments 1 August 2005

Training is going well at the club under the guidance of new coach Chris Garrett who has joined the club during the summer. Chris is an experienced coach and full-time Rugby Development Officer with the Gwent Dragons and feedback from the players is that they are really enjoying his training.

One piece of bad news for the club is that captain Craig Saunders has undergone an operation to remove a disc from his spine and is going to be out for the first part of the season.

There have been several new faces at training including wings Chris Haddock, a Wales Deaf International and new signing from Cwmbran and Matthew Hiatt from New Panteg and second row Jim Sergeant from Girlings. It is also good to see former youth players Paul Rosier and Bobby Pike back. They have been out of the game for the past couple of seasons and looking to make a welcome return.

There are 2 friendlies arranged. The first away against Reading Abbey on 13th August. Bus leaves the club at 11.00 a.m. and will not be back until approx. midnight for any supporters wishing to travel. The 2nd game is away to Pontypool United on Sat 20th August, K.O. 2.30 p.m.

The club has drawn Cardigan Division 4 West club Crymych away in the 1st round of the Konica Minolta Welsh Cup on 3rd Sept so the 1st scheduled league game against Newport Saracens will have to be rearranged.
