Roller Hockey!
Pontypool Skater Hockey Club is affiliated to the British Inline Puck Hockey Association and has teams in the following age groups: Under 10, Under 12, Under 14, Under 16, Under 18, and under 21. The club is run by voluntary coaches and officials elected each year at its Annual General Meeting.
Training takes place at Pontypool Leisure Centre on Wednesday evening at various times between 6pm and 10pm.
Club members pay a monthly Fee to cover training and other expenses: - this is currently £10 per month but may change if the amount of members reduces, or the Club's overheads increase throughout the year. It covers the cost of hiring the hall at Pontypool Leisure Centre for training. This sum must be paid to the Treasurer by standing order on the first Wednesday of every month.
Hockey Kit Required - In order to take part in training sessions and games players must wear a
full set of hockey kit, only kit specifically manufactured for Ice Hockey is allowed. Helmets must carry the North American or Swedish safety certificate sticker.
Each player (Male and female) must have the following items:-
Helmet (with face guard), Body armour, Gloves, Neck guard, Abdominal protector (Box), Leg guards, Padded Shorts, Elbow pads, Skates, Stick (plus spare if possible), Training shirt, Socks or trousers, Sweat suit to wear under the kit. There is a large amount of second hand kit available from other club members which is usually in good condition.
League Structures - Pontypool's teams currently play approximately twelve games in the British Inline Puck Hockey Association (South East Wales). If we are successful in those leagues we also play in the British Team Championships. Friendly games and tournaments are also played where ever possible.
