March

Bank

Fish middle to bottom, areas gabions, Bill smiths, north bank and by Hilton

Boats

Same areas Don't fish over more than 20ft, anchor up 30 yards from bank and fish middle to bottom

Week ending 2nd March

The opening this year is one of the best i can remember I think this is a lot to do with the amount of  overwintered fish left in last year as a direct result of the catch and release ticket which was very popular with anglers

I fished the north bank on opening day sat and sunday the boats which were anchored about 40yds away and all the bank anglers were having a lot of sport

Sport was not so brisk over at the gabions with bill smiths being poor

Best tactics Boobies on sinking lines

2 April

At the time of writing this/ every weekend i have fished i have done very well In fact everyone i have spoken to has had good sport. Last weekend on the saturday in some of the worst conditions  i have fished in we held a comp on boats and achieved a rod average of 9.7 fish per angler. top angler Anthony Cartwright caught and released 22 fish

Fish are still deep so stick with the bottom to middle tactics

island bank / larences bank on boat

gabions bill smiths /  north bank on bank

27 april

34  anglers 515 fish caught and released rod average 15.14 these are the stats for a comp held on 5th april on llandegfedd res A rod average in the 4 to 5 fish region is a good average so 15 is truly outstanding

Fished this fri sat sun from boats found most fish on laurances / island bank and the mouth of green pool.Gabions and bill smiths also holding a good head of fish

Bank anglers on fri and sat are all bagging up on gabions and bill smiths north bank ok but is not holding the big head of fish that is on the other side

Fish are coming up in the water so glue buzzers on floating lines are starting to work

19th may

Fish are now right up in the water floating and intermediate lines are the best lines

All areas are holding fish with bill smiths holding the most but in truth you could bag up anywhere

Bank anglers are mostly on floating lines with diawl bachs and crunchers sometimes a glue buzzer on the point to get the cast fishing correctly

Boat anglers have a variety of methods to use blobs and boobies on intermediate lines are working

Nymphs on floating and midge tip lines

On sunday our club comp resulted in 11 out of 15 anglers bagging up before finish time

Get out there and enjoy

12th june

Fishing over a very short period has changed The weather being bright and very warm sends the fish out and away from the margins so bank anglers get out very early 7am start

Nymphs on a floater will work as will tadpole patterns on a intermediate roly poly retrieve

Boat anglers can take a more relaxed approach although a early start 8pm would be better

Best areas all north bank ireland bank, green pool bay, laurence bank all of bill smiths, and half way up the gabions.

The dam is just starting to fish but it needs a consistant south wind to fish at it's best

Don;t be wary of fishing up in the water right out in the middle of the lake the fish are now starting to target the pin fry even right out in the middle of the lake The conception of fry feeding fish always being in the margins have been changed on llandegfedd over the last few years as we have found shoals of pin fry in the middle of the lake

i would suggest a slow intermedite with point fly of a sparkler booby then 2 droppers like a silver invictor and a silver butcher

28th june

Fishing is still holding up despite other major reservoirs going off. The banks are now getting harder early  and late starts advised. Boats are definitly the best option Floaters, Slow & Fast intermediates are the best lines. Fish are no deeper than 8ft in the water where-ever you are

Water clarity is exellent

All fly combinations will work

Dam is now fishing fairly consistantly north bank has most fish but smaller fish than gabions and bill smiths Drifts are all way down north bank. 500 yds off dam. half way down gabions into bill smiths 500yds off island bank and larences bank From opposite sailing club wooden shed straight dowm the middle to past the big moored boat towards green pool

Tight lines

22nd july

Fishing is now getting difficult still some bank fishing to be had but if you miss early morning you will be having a long wait untill the evening rise, nothing much in between morning and evening

Boats are fairing better with floaters slow intermediates and fast intermediates best lines

All areas are fishing but look for clean water as we have some suspended algae which will put the fish off feeding

All fly combinations will work

If overcast put 2 boobies on a floater and pull as fast as you can and watch the fish follow

Tight lines
