Sporting Achievement

Kevin Wall

Kevin Wall Welsh International

Many Congratulations go to our past club member and Welsh International Kevin Wall on his selection for his first International cap for England.

Kevin had a distinguished career with Cwmbran Park Bowls Club and Wales.

His international career in Wales covered the period from 1997 to 2006 where he gained caps at all levels of the sport from Junior to the Senior International Teams both at Indoor and Outdoor and represented Wales in the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne Australia in 2006.

Later that year he moved to the Newcastle area where he married and now lives and works

and now plays for GOSFORTH Bowls Club.

As a result of his playing success and his residency qualification period in England at the age of 30 years he now starts out on a second International career a unique achievement.

His first match for England is ironically against Wales at the Belmont Bowls Club Belfast Northern Ireland on the 26th and 27th June 2009 where the British Isles Home Internationals series will be held.

Since moving to Newcastle he has achieved quite a successful playing record and has represented his new county Northumbland in the outdoor and Indoor format.

In 2007 he was part of a trio that won the County Triples Championship.

In 2008 he won the:

  • County Singles Championship.
  • Northern Counties Singles Championship.
  • County Pairs Championship.

The following is a brief outline of his playing record in Wales:

  • Welsh International:               2001 - 2002 - 2003 -  2004 -  2005 - 2006.
  • Welsh Junior International:  2000.
  • Welsh Indoor International:  2000/01 - 2001/02 - 2003/04.
  • Welsh Junior Indoor International (u25): 1997/8 - 1998/9 - 1999/00 - 2000/1 - 2001/2

                                                                                       2002/3 - 2003/4.

  • Monmouthshire Bowling Association CountyTriples Champion: 1998.
  • MBA County Singles Champion: 2000.
  • MBA County Singles Champion of Champions: 2004.

In  2002 Kevin represented Wales in a test series in Capetown against South Africa where the series was drawn. Later that year he capped a successful season when he represented Wales in the World Bowls Test series.

This prestigious series was played throughout various venues in England against invitation Test Teams from around the world who were invited to celebrate the English Bowling Association Centenial year.

During his career Kevin was a regular part of the MBA County Championship Team and his local Eastern Valley team, quite a record.

It is interesting to note that Kevin is a local Old Cwmbran village lad who lived alongside Cwmbran Park Bowling Club Green.

At the age of 12 years he sat alongside the green and watched his future team mates play this wonderful game of bowls.

The rest is now History

This begs the question is there more local talent out there but just need that kick start to try out the game?

Why not come along to a taster session on our Club Nights every Tuesday evening at 6.00pm weather permitting where our Club Coaches are available to help and advise you. Father and Son are welcome.

All playing kit is supplied except we must stipulate that  flat bottom footwear is worn.

The club functions on a very small membership and are always on the lookout for anyone who wishes to take up the game from those who are already fully fledged bowlers to those who wish to learn.
