The President’s Message 2008
Officers and Bowlers of Cwmbran Park, as your President and on behalf of my wife and family it gives me great pleasure to offer you our sincere congratulations to you all on the successful celebration of the clubs Seventy Fifth Anniversary last year.
Well done to all the members on regaining promotion back to Division One of the Monmouthshire Bowling Association League Club Championship also the fine achievement of the Leisure League Team in retaining the Eastern Valley Bowling Association Club Championship Title.
To you all I wish you good health, good team spirit, good companionship and continued success for the coming season.
Don Peake
President
Seventy Fifth Anniversary
1932 - 2007
SEASON 2007
Last season was yet another record-breaking year in the clubs history.
The club lifted two Club Championship Titles and extended their record of nineteen Eastern Valley Bowling Association Club Championship Titles and a record ten Eastern Valley Bowling Association Leisure League Club Championships.
It is worthy of note that both titles were won with an unbeaten run in all matches.
However, there was a downside to the season when the club was relegated from the 1st Division of the Monmouthshire Bowling Association Club Championship for the first time since its inception in 1994.
I am sure that with the influx of our new members we will bounce back and regain promotion in 2007.
The officers and members of the club are extremely proud that one of our youngest players current Welsh International Kevin Wall had been selected to represent Wales in the Commonwealth Games Bowls Championships held in Melbourne Australia in March 2006.
Although he did not reach the medal stage he gave an excellent personal performance and subsequently retained his International place in the Welsh Team at the British Isle’s Home Internationals held in Carlisle in June 2006.
Season 2007 will be a very important year as we will be celebrating the 75th Anniversary of the clubs History.
In celebration we look forward to entertaining Presidents Teams whose players will be selected from other Bowls Clubs throughout the Principality including the celebrated Barbarians who will travel from far and wide for a game of bowls.
In September the club will round off the celebration of our 75th Anniversary with a weekend Bowls Tour to Torquay accompanied by our wives and supporters.
Our past President W. G. Cook M.B.E. affectionately known throughout the locality as Billy M.B.E. retired after eleven loyal years service to the club we all wish him well in his 93rd year and he still enjoys playing his bowls.
Our new President is Don Peake who has been our Vice President for many years; he and his family have been long standing loyal supporters of our club.
The officers and members wish him well and look forward to a long association in his new office.
To our local business associates and Cwmbran Community Council a big thank you again for your valued support.
We now have a dedicated website on the internet the address is: www.cwmbranparkbowlingclub.co.uk|
To you all enjoy this celebratory season and may your every bowl kiss the jack.
John Alford
Vice Chairman.
