 For The Attention of all members

 

The green is now open from 2.00pm this date.

 

The teams for this weeks matches both friendlies (Wednesday away to Newbridge and Saturday away to Belle Vue)  have been selected and posted.

 

A reminder to all members the first club night of the season is Tuesday 15 April meet 6.00pm

new members or those who wish to try out the sport are welcome.

Pre Season Meeting 2008

 

This years pre-season  general meeting will be held at St Josephs Social Club on Tuesday 8th April 2008 start 8.00pm.

 

The management committe look forward to seeing old and new members and look forward to your support in the coming season.

Club Bowls Coaches

 

Congratulations to Mark Mann and John Alford who gained their Club Coaching Accreditation after a period of training under the auspices of The Welsh Bowls Coaching Association.

 

This brings the total number of coaches in the club to five (5) (Brian Relland, Tony John and Roy Anslow)

21st September 2007:

Club Tour to Torquay 14 - 17 September 2007

 

In celebration of the clubs Seventy Fifth Anniversary and for the first time in its history the season was wound up with a mini tour to Torquay.

 

Three matches were played over the weekend.

 

On Friday we were entertained by Torquay Bowls Club.

 

Cwmbran ran out winners by 59 shots (151 to 92)

 

On the Saturday the club travelled to Teignmouth and played Britton Park Bowls Club the result was a narrow loss by 12 shots (119 to 107).

 

The last match was played on Sunday at Torbay Country Club who gave us a very warm welcome on the green . Torbay won by 33 shots 128 to 95).

 

The playing record was as follows:

 

Played 3. Won 1. Lost 2. Shots For 353. Shots Against 339. Shot Aggregate plus 14.

 

The weather Hotel and Bowling Greens were excellent.

 

Our thanks go to the Bowls Clubs for their hospitality and the friendship shown.

 

A special vote of thanks go to our ladies who accompanied us on tour and in particular to our Secretary Howard Rees for his organisation and hard work that helped to make a memorable weekend thoroughly enjoyed by all.

Friday 14th September Torquay Bowls Club.

 

Photo of the first recipients of the dreaded hat awarded after the match to the worst performing rink sharing a drink with the opposition. It was'nt that bad (the hats I mean).

 

This tour hat had to be worn by the rink members everywhere at all times for the rest of that day as a forfeit. The object of the lesson is must do better.

Cwmbran Park Bowling Club held their Finals day on Saturday last.

 

The days events was blessed by good weather with perfect conditions for top class bowling.

 

The competitors were well supported and a feast of Bowling was enjoyed by all.

5th September 2007:

Cwmbran Park Bowling Club will be holding their Club Finals Day on Saturday 8th September 2007 at Cocker Avenue leisure Park Bowling Green.

 

Members will be competing for the following Titles:

 

Club Singles Champion: J.I.H. Alford v B. Relland

 

Handicap Singles:            D.J. Cook v M. Mann

 

Two Wood Singles:          R. Dunbar v M. Mann

 

Two Wood Pairs:              M. Szejbach  A. Cooper v P. Mann  D.J. Cook

 

 First Competition Starts at 1:00pm 


2nd September 2007:

Cwmbran Park Bowling Club who were relegated last season (for the first time in their history) from the First (1st) Division to the Second (2nd) Division of the Monmouthshire Bowling Association League have regained promotion for next season.

 

This was a fine achievement by everyone in the club.

 

Due to the strong competition in the second division promotion was in doubt until the result of the last match of the season.

 

Congratulations to everyone for a job well done.

 

Full results of the second division results and league placings will be posted at a later date.

 


29th August 2007:

Congratulations to the Leisure League team on winning the EVBA Leisure League Club Championship Title for the fifth (5) consecutive year.

 

The club has now extended their record of Title wins to Eleven (11)

 

This successful Monday afternoon League was introduced in 1987 by the Eastern Valley Bowling Association hence it was aptly named the leisure league.

 

Credit goes to all the players and teams from the various clubs who have supported and helped to develop the league into a friendly but competitive competition enjoyed by all.

29th July 2007:

Cwmbran Park played the last of their Anniversary celebration matches against the Barbarians Team. 

 

The celebrated Barbarians team travelled far and wide from the West Country, South Wales and not to mention one Barbarian player an ex - pat travelled from his home in the South of France, a mark of true dedication and support to their team and to the sport.

 

The Barbarians Bowls Association motto is, To Honour High Achievement in Bowls.

 

The final result in this excellent match played in perfect weather conditions was an honourable draw at 113 shots each.

 

This was achieved with thanks from the help of a small number of our past club players who still maintain their links with the club.

 

The after match celebrations at our HQ,St Josephs Social Club was again an enjoyable evening.

8th July 2007:

Cwmbran Park played their latest celebration match of their Anniversary Year against a select Eastern Valley Bowling Association President's Team.

 

The Presidents Team was selected from all the Bowling Clubs within Torfaen from Blaenavon to Cwmbran.

 

With the help of a few past Cwmbran Park player's who guested for Cwmbran on the day they won this enjoyable match by 63 Shots (155 - 92)

 

Again the weather held and the after the match proceedings at St Josephs Social Club was enjoyed by all who took part.

7th July 2007:

Cwmbran Park failed to gain a quarter final place in the Club Championship of Wales when they lost their 3rd round match in the Carruthers Shield away to a strong Gilfach Bargoed team by 33 shots (92 - 59)


23rd June 2007:

Cwmbran Park won their 2nd round home tie against Tick Tock Bowls Club in the Carruthers Shield Club Championship of Wales by 13 shots (84 - 71).

 

The club have been drawn away to Gilfach Bargoed  in the 3rd round of the competition to be played on Saturday 7th July 2007 for a place in the quarter final.


17th June 2007:

Cwmbran Park's latest anniversary celebration match against a select Monmouthshire Bowling Association President's Team was played in good spirits, with the home side winning by 136 shots to 77.

 

The after match celebration's and excellent Buffet on the 22nd end was enjoyed by both teams.

16th June 2007:


Cwmbran Park beat Aberavon B.C. in the 1st Round of the Carruthers Shield, by a shot count of 87 to 75. This has set up a home tie against Tick Tock in the second round, to be played on Saturday 23 June 2007.


15th June 2007:

Cwmbran Park progressed to the third round of the M.B.A. Cup this evening by winning 91 shots to 65 away to Croesyceiliog.


 

6th June 2007:

The draw for the second round of the M.B.A. Cup has been confirmed. Cwmbran Park have been drawn away to Croesyceiliog on Friday 15th June.


4th June 2007:

 
The Carruthers Shield Open Draw has been confirmed by the W.B.A. Cwmbran Park have been drawn at home to Aberavon B.C. with the tie to be played on Saturday 16th June 2007.
The winner will then face the winner of the Llanbradach / Tick Tock match
.


2nd June 2007:

The club completed a successful weekend in winning the opening match in the Monmouthshire Bowling Association 2nd Division campaign.

 

Cwmbran won a hard fought game by a narrow 4 shots and 12 points to 2 in a local derby playing away to Croesyceiliog.

 

Scores: Croesyceiliog 82 shots and 2 points. Cwmbran 86 shots and 12 points.

 


1st June 2007:

The club has been successful in winning it's MBA Cup 1st round match away at Llanhilleth by a score of 89 shots to 44.


30th May 2007:

Congratulations again to Mark Mann, on his continued selection for the Monmouthshire Bowling Association Championship Team.

 

This is for the match to be played against Mid Glamorgan at Merthyr West End, on Sunday 10th June 2007, start 2.30pm.

Congratulations to Mark Mann one of our youngest players, on his selection to the Monmouthshire County Team for his first Championship match.

 

The first match in the County Championship of Wales campaign will take place on Sunday 27th May at Pontyfelin Bowls Club, New Inn. Start 2.30pm

The club functions on a very small membership and are always on the lookout for anyone who wishes to take up the game from those who are already fully fledged bowlers to those who wish to learn.
