World Bowls and Commonwealth Games player.

Aeron was the baby of the team and is the only survivor.

They gave an excellent account of themselves finishing in fourth place just outside the medals but gained the distinction of being the only team in the Commonwealth to beat the gold medalists Hong Kong.

Gilbert Villars

Willie Gilbert Villars joined the club in 1932 and was Honorary Secretary from 1934 to 1963..

He then served as President until his death on 30th December 1969.

He was presented with an illuminated address by the Monmouthshire Bowling Association in 1957 and made Life Member after serving 21 years on the Management Committee.

In his will Gilbert left the club £25.00 part of which was used to purchase a Silver Challenge Cup in his memory.

He also presented the cup shown in this photograph to the ladies section in memory of his wife Elizabeth who died in 1963.

He was a remarkable man who was known as Mr. Bowls and there is no doubt that his efforts and dedication ensured the survival of this successful club that all members enjoy today.

The club functions on a very small membership and are always on the lookout for anyone who wishes to take up the game from those who are already fully fledged bowlers to those who wish to learn.
