Cwmbran Park Bowling Club

Plymouth 2008

Club Tour to Plymouth 12 - 15 September 2008

The club members, wives and friends followed up the previous years successful Bowls Tour when they visited Plymouth.

Our Headquartes for the Tour was the excellent Jury's Hotel.

Three matches were played over the weekend.

On our arrival on the Friday we were entertained by the Bere Alston Bowls Club, Yoverton.

Our coach driver threaded his coach through the heart of the Yoverton country side, we all arrived at the green safely after an extremely eventful journey, well done!

(GPS systems don't always give you the little temporary information signs with the vital information of your route)

The match was played in rather damp conditions after a localised thunder storm and Cwmbran won by 64 shots (161 - 97).

Our thanks to Yoverton Captain Mike Emptage and  our hosts for an excellent afternoon.

On Saturday we experienced the hospitality of the famous Sir Francis Drake Bowling Club where we gained a narrow victory by 7 shots (109 - 102).

Our thanks to Club Captain Pat May and his team for an excellent afternoon and the provision of perfect weather conditions.

On Sunday we played the The City of Plymouth Bowls Club whose green is located on the historical Plymouth Ho.

The weather was again kind to us and we wound up the tour on an unbeaten run by winning by 17 shots (131 - 114).

Again our thanks to Captain Edgar Meluish and his club for their excellent hospitality.

As with all tours the after match visits to historical and questionable local hostelry's and our own karaoke entertainments team have been the topic of many stories and conversations since the tour.

As a club we operate on a small membership therefore we could not have undertaken a tour without the help of our friends of the bowling fraternity who assisted us.

The club extends our grateful thanks to them.

A special vote of thanks go to everyone who supported the tour and in particular our club committee for their hard work that contributed to a memorable weekend enjoyed by all.
