Cwmbran Park Bowling Club

Paignton 2012

Tour to Paignton Devon 7th - 9th September 2012

In celebration of the Clubs 80th Anniversary Cwmbran Park Bowling Club returned to Paignton Devon where we played three matches against local clubs.

After the worst bowling weather in living memory the elements relented long enough to play the matches on good greens in excellent weather conditions.

Our Headquarters for the tour was again the excellent "Queens Hotel" who lived up to it's reputation of good food and top class entertainment that contributed to an enjoyable weekend.

For our first match on the Friday we were entertained by Paignton Bowls Club where Cwmbran got the tour off to a winning start by a margin of 45 shots. (132 - 87)

For our second match on Saturday the team travelled to Buckfastleigh Bowls Club the birth place of our long standing member Brian Relland. (thereby lies a story)

On an excellent playing surface Cwmbran Park gained their second win of the tour by 38 shots. (126 - 88)

The after match hospitality ensued with an enjoyable rendering by the members of Buckfastleigh of a well known local ditty "Widdicombe Fair" accompanied by the clubs fine accordian player.

It goes without saying a rendering of welsh aria's completed a memorable afternoon for everyone.

On Sunday we played our last match at Marldon Maple Leaf Bowls Club that resulted in a win for Cwmbran Park by 46 shots,(145 - 99) completing an unbeaten weekend.

To all the members of the relevant clubs our grateful thanks for the hospitality shown.

Our thanks also go to our guest tourists who helped to make this tour so successful.

Last but not least our grateful thanks to our Club Secretary Howard Rees and his wife Jill for the unseen hardwork that they contributed to the tour to ensure it's success.

The club now look forward to next year when we tour Newquay Cornwall.
