I-Robot
Set in Chicago in 2035, Will Smith (in the guise of Del Spooner) yet again is set to save the world or is he? I must confess that I had a preconception of this film based upon the Gung-Ho Blockbuster "Independence Day" that " I Robot" would be of the same ilk. But, "I Robot" is an entirely different film with a moralistic tale all of it's own.
Leather loving, robot phobic, Del Spooner is a detective with the Chicago police force. He has a grudge against robots based on a past life experience. Robots are an integral part of life in 2035 and the development of a new, more intelligent model fills Del with dread.
The robots are governed by fundamental laws of their existence which prevents them from harming humans. But will this law be upheld in the new generation!
The story begins with the "suicide" of a top robotic expert , a friend of Del's, and the discovery of a highly intelligent and all knowing robot called Sonny.
Interrogation of Sonny gives Del an insight into the minds of the new
generation of robots and to his dismay all his preconceptions and ill-feelings about the enhanced intelligence of the new robots starts to come true.
A technically brilliant film with a realistic vision of the future which is quite fascinating. But, I left the cinema with the feeling that the film didn't quite deliver the expected promise
