Blaenavon
There has been many reports of sightings in Blaenavon.
A phantom hitch hiker has been seen between fiddlers elbow and blaenavon fire station, many people have reported picking up a young girl and when she gets to the top Blaenavon she simply vanishes. There is also another version of this story that involves a male hitch hiker.
A man has also been seen standing by fiddlers elbow, there has been a story that many years ago a truck driver was coming down the mountain towards the elbow when a bus full of children was coming up, the lorry drivers brakes failed and he swerved to avoid the bus and hit a tree. he was killed instantly. some people say that this is the ghost that appears at fiddlers elbow.
There has been another faceless phantom hitch hiker on the varteg road between the varteg and the garn.
The Beeches Nursing Home is said to be haunted by ghostly children, a man that has been called the doctor and two ghostly dogs. There has also been some poltergeist activity reported.
Blaenavon Iron works have reportedly had there share of the paranormal. children have been heard singing and a dog has also been heard walking about and barking.
Pontllanfraith
There has been serveral odd sightings in Pontllanfraith which is near Blackwood.
There has been sightings of a black shadow and poltergeist activity in the woodfieldside industrial estate.
Also the Ivor Arms is said to be haunted by a apparition.
On there woodfieldside industrial estate there used to be farm land that has now become more industrial units, there has been UFO sightings been reported.
There most weirdest of reports is the local tale of the Gwanchy, this is said to be a creature that is about four feet tall has big red eyes and looks like a mixture of a hedgehog and man. I guess it should be called the manhog.
Also in the same area there is an old story of a card game that was played in a barn one dark evening between a few farmers, later in the evening a strange gentleman in a long trench coat and a hat appeared and asked if he could join the game, the farmers agreed and the game continued. Half way trough the game one of the farmers dropped his card and and went under the table to retrieve it, he looked across at the strange gentleman's feet and instead of seeing
legs he saw hooves and a tail. the farmer quickly jumped out and shouted at the gentleman to get out. As he did this the gentle man threw of his hat and coat and jumped out of the roof of the barn and into the darkness.
