Newport Provisional Market

Team members:
Gareth Mates, Maryse Mates, Roger Dixon, Grace Dixon and Jamie Smart.
4.0 Investigation
4.1 Explanation of terms
EVP stands for Electronic Voice Phenomena and this is where questions are asked openly to an location and recorded on a tape player or digital dictation machine and then played back to see if there is any unexplained noises or voices on the recording.
A trigger object test is where items are placed on a surface and drawn around or covered in flour and left to see if the items have been moved by an entity.
Vigil is another team for the team visiting and staying in one are to carry out data gathering.
Positive data is another term for images, videos, audio or other types of readings that have been collected that might point towards being paranormal activity.
Natural phenomena is when activity that has occurred is actually natural or man made and note paranormal.
4.2 Teams arrival
Time 6:30pm
On arrival at the market the investigators were kindly greeted by Mike, whom set up the required table and chairs for us. We then proceeded to set up a control area, connect up cameras and place stationary equipment. After the initial setup we commenced a tour of the market and took baseline readings.
Once all relevant data was collected we started the investigation.
Important Note
Whilst setting up the equipment multiple pieces of equipment failed to work even though they had worked with ease before attending the location. Some pieces of equipment had to be retired from the investigation due to these power and operating failures.
Throughout the whole investigation the cellar and jewellery area was remotely monitored via cameras, emf meters and remote thermometers. These were all monitored from a control area which was positioned by the second entrance to the cellars up towards the jewellery stall on the ground floor. This control area was monitored by at least two investigators at all times.
4.3 Vigil 1
Area: Tower
Time: 9; 00pm Arrive. 9:45pm Depart
Temperature; 16.2Oc
Relative Humidity: 58%RH
Investigators present: Jamie, Maryse and Gareth
Equipment used: - Digital camera x 2, digital dictation machine and laser thermometer
The investigators arrived at the area and set up the equipment to monitor and record audio, temperature and visual data. The investigators sat down and took some readings. An EVP session was then commenced from 9:15 until 9:45. During this time questions were asked out loud and readings were taken.
Personal Experiences
All the investigators present witnessed a flash of light on one of the walls in the tower; this was witnessed on three occasions by everyone present. The team established that the flashes of light could be from an outside source. All sources were covered and the flash appeared for the forth time. No equipment was able to capture this at the time.
Positive Data collected
None of the activity was recorded and no further data was collected.
4.4 Vigil 2
Area: Cellar
Time: 9:45 Arrival and 10:30 Depart
Temperature: 16.8oC
Humidity 59%RH
Investigators Present: Jamie, Roger and Gareth
Equipment used:-
• Digital camera x 2,
• Laser thermometer,
• radiac survey meter,
• G-UK Advanced EMF Meter
• Mini DV Video camera
• Wireless temperature sensor
The investigators arrived at the area and set up the equipment to monitor and record temperature, electromagnetic, gamma and visual data. The investigators took photos and monitored the equipment.
No EVP sessions were commenced due to high volume of noise from outside.
Personal Experiences
None were recorded
Positive data collected
An anomaly, possibly an apparition was caught on digital Camera. (See image: cellar apparition jpg.)
A Light anomaly was caught on digital camera (see image: cellar light anomaly jpg.
4.5 Vigil 3
Area: Boiler room
Time: 10:40pm Arrive. 11:00pm Depart
Temperature; 16.8oC
Relative Humidity: 57%RH
Investigators present: Gareth and Roger
Equipment used: - Digital camera x 2, digital dictation machine, hi 8 video camera and laser thermometer
The investigators arrived at the area and set up the equipment to monitor and record temperature and visual data. The investigators took photos and monitored the equipment.
No EVP sessions were commenced due to high volume of noise from outside.
A video camera was setup and recorded the area for the duration that the investigators were present.
Personal Experiences
None were recorded
Positive data collected
None of the activity was recorded and no further data was collected
Notes
This area was very dusty and housed the power supplies for the market. This area would have a high level of dust and electromagnetic energy. Any data collected in this are would become invalid as there would be a natural source.
4.6 Vigil 4
Time: 11:00Arrival and 11:30 Depart
Area: Tower
Temperature: 16.8oC
Humidity 59%RH
Investigators Present: Jamie and Gareth
Equipment used:-
• Digital camera x 2
• Laser thermometer
• Hi 8 Video camera
• Digital dictation machine
The investigators made a second visit to the tower to carry out further EVP sessions. Also this time a Hi 8 video camera was setup to record the room whilst the investigators were present. The investigators carried out an EVP Session and asked questions and commands out loud to see if this would register a response.
Personal Experiences
There seemed to be some sort of human interaction when an investigator threw a small stone and asked for it to be thrown back a moan was heard just outside of the entrance to the tower. Unfortunately this was not recorded on any type of audio.
On request a noise seemed to have been copied, an investigator stamped his foot and asked out loud if the noise could be copied. In response to this a loud bang that sounded like a stomp was heard in the room below the tower. Again this was not recorded on any type of audio so will have to stay as a personal experience.
Positive Data Collected
A Light anomaly was caught on digital camera, (see anomaly in tower.JPG)
4.7 Vigil 5
Area: Tower
Time: 11:30Arrival and 12:00 Depart
Temperature: 16.8oC
Humidity 59%RH
Investigators Present: Roger and Gareth
Equipment used:-
• Digital camera x 2
• Hi 8 Video camera
• Digital dictation machine
After the previous activity at the tower the team decided to swap an investigator to get a second opinion on the activity. The replacement investigator was not told of the previous activity and was sent to the tower to see if he experienced the same activity. As before the digital dictation machine was set up and recorded the whole time the investigators were in the room. Also an EVP session was conducted. A trigger object test was also set up in this area which involved plastic cups.
Personal Experiences.
As before the same questions were asked during the EVP Session and the same actions were undertaken to check the response. On asking if an entity could copy the sound we make by stomping our feet we had a bang in response just as we previously had thirty minutes previously.
Positive Data Collected
The banging sound which was heard in response to the investigators questions was recorded on the digital dictation machine.
4.8 Data collected between vigils
Whilst walking to the different areas of the location various readings and photos were taken, on some occasions positive data was collected.
We caught three different types of anomalies on digital camera in the following areas:-
Ground floor market: - A moving Light anomaly (see image: moving light anomalyjpg.)
The Gallery Café area: - An odd light anomaly that we never have encountered before (see image: unsure.jpg)
Ground floor market side exit; - A Apparition (see image: apparition 1.jpg)
