Good Bye Old Friend
Good By Old Friend and Thank You.
"Mr Morris"
June 1959 - April 2007
It is with a heavy heart that I have taken out of service my Morris Minor reg. 610 UXW also known as AAB 653A and XAB 397. At it’s last MOT, serious corrosion had set in sending the cost of repair well over my repair budget.
Most Morris Minor owners have given names for their much loved cars. For me, mine was known to many as “Mr Morris” on account that he moved like an old gentleman.
He, at the age of 49 years old saw many changes i.e. 8 Prime Ministers. He witnessed groups such as “The Beatles” “Queen” and the “Rolling Stones” Saw fashion change from “Mini skirts” to “slashed denim” of the Punk rockers. A New Decimal Currency. The cost of petrol rise from 3 shillings a gallon to £3.80 a gallon. And the start of a New Millennium. He also gave endless pleasure to all who saw and drove him. He even had a very pleasant task of taking a bride to her wedding last July and even getting featured in the Novembers edition of Minor Matters.
Like most people who carry organ donation cards which helps others lead a more active and healthier life’s, Mr Morris will be used as a donor vehicle so other Morris Minors can carry on giving pleasure to all who see and fondly remember them.
As for my family and myself, I have just spent out on a 1968 ex-police car with a few memento’s of our Mr Morris so the “Dawes” family can carry on with the pleasures of driving a well loved car.
P.S. If you haven’t got an organ donation card. You can pick them up at any GP surgery, Local Pharmacist or Hospitals. If you have a Morris that you would like to offer as donor parts to then please get in touch with your local Morris Minor club.
