Car History
As it’s seventh owner I purchased this 1968 Morris Minor ex-police car reg. MKG 324F in May 2007.
A local enthuseasist was in need of my spares to make up another one he was working on. He just finished working on this car and wanted room in his garage. When I came to look over this car, he emplaned that it was an ex-police car and that he didn’t like the colour of light blue and white, so set about painting it a dark blue colour.
Records show that the car was registered to the Cardiff Police Force in 1968 along with a few others. (Numbers not quiet known).
Cardiff City Police ceased to exist in 1969 when they amalgamated with Merthyr Tydfil County
Borough Police, Swansea County Borough Police and the Glamorganshire County Constabulary to become the South Wales Constabulary on the 1st April 1969.
There were further boundary changes on 1st April 1974 when parts of Dyfed-Powys Police and Gwent Police were brought into South Wales Police. So although this car originally started life as a Cardiff City Police car, it probably ended its days as a South Wales Constabulary car!
Other Police forces introduced Morris Minors into their forces, they also used different models for different jobs. The morris Minor LCV van was used as a Police Dog van, The Morris Minor Traveller was used to carry equipment to scenes of crimes and Road accidents ect.
