Prince Edward enjoyed a whistle-stop tour of Gwent, visiting a school, a college, a museum and a building project.

The Earl of Wessex started his Wednesday by popping into Haberdashers School in Monmouth to chat to pupils there before heading off to Coleg Gwent's Usk Campus where he started a triathlon.

Youngsters from the college were competing in the event, held on the college grounds and organised in conjunction with Monmouthshire Youth Service and the Duke of Edinburgh Award.

Stacey Chorazyczewski, 17, from Pontypool, spoke to the prince, the patron of the Duke of Edinburgh Award, after her race.

But Stacey admitted she was a little star-struck: "He was lovely and asked how my race went. All I could do is smile at him. He was very polite and a nice man - he spoke to all of us."

Head of school sport and leisure Helen Morgan said: "He was lovely, very relaxed.

There was lots of conversation and he was really interested in the college."

After listening to a talk by the Monmouthshire Open Awards group, he was given a Welsh dragon bear and left to unveil a plaque at Pontypool Museum.

The prince then visited the Garnsychan Partnership, a construction project in Blaenavon where the majority of beneficiaries are women.
