Butcher is for the high jump

A Gwent man with a fear of heights is planning to jump out of a plane at 10,000 feet.

David Standing, a 23-year-old butcher from Cwmbran, is raising £400 for the Noah's Ark appeal with his daring skydive.

The assistant at Mark Roberts Butchers in Cwmbran town centre admits he is "not the biggest fan of heights".

But he added: "I'm definitely looking forward to it. It's my first jump but hopefully it won't be the last. It'll be a wicked adrenaline buzz."

Mr Standing, of Woodland Road, Croesyceiliog, will take the plunge this Sunday at an airfield in Gloucestershire with a group of other fundraising skydivers.

He was partly inspired to do the jump by his employer, Mark Roberts, who has raised thousands of pounds for charity on sponsored hikes around the UK.

The Noah's Ark appeal is geared towards equipping the first Children's Hospital for Wales at Cardiff Royal Infirmary.

Anyone who would like to make a donation should call into the butcher's in General Rees Square, Cwmbran.
