Wales leave out Koumas and Coyne

Jason Koumas and Danny Coyne have been omitted from Wales' squad for the Euro 2008 Czech Republic tie (2 September).

Neither are felt to have had enough game time, Coyne after injury and Koumas having not played this season and boycotted West Brom's pre-season.

John Hartson is not named for Teplice, though he is available in emergencies.

Andrew Crofts is up from the Under-21 squad, David Cotterill dropping to the U21s for the Uefa Championship match with Turkey in Cardiff (2 September).

Wolves' Craig Davies and Wrexham's Marc Williams are both suspended from U21 duty after picking up red cards against Israel last week.

Koumas, 26, is finally available for West Brom, having held breakthrough talks with Baggies manager Bryan Robson.

But the midfielder missed the entire pre-season as he tried to arrange a transfer to Cardiff while claiming that he would never play for Robson again.

Burnley goalkeeper Coyne has only recently returned to action, having been out since September with a cruciate knee ligament injury.

Wales manager John Toshack annoyed Burnley counterpart Steve Cotterill by picking Coyne in his squad for the 15 August friendly with Bulgaria in Swansea.

Cotterill claimed that Coyne was not yet ready for a full return, and Toshack seems to have agreed by leaving his former first choice keeper out of the mix and drafting in Leyton Orient's Glyn Garner.

After facing the Czechs, Wales have a friendly with Brazil at White Hart Lane on 5 September.

Their next Euro 2008 games are the double-headed Millennium Stadium fixtures against Slovakia (7 October) and Cyprus (11 October).

The other teams in Group D are the Republic of Ireland, Germany and San Marino.

Wales' hopes in Teplice have been boosted by the news that Czech and Chelsea keeper Petr Cech is a doubt for the game.

"We'll see how the first training sessions go," said Cech, 24, who has just returned following a shoulder operation after the World Cup.

"I don't want to make a promise that I can't keep."

Czech coach Karel Bruckner is set to name his squad for the qualifiers against Wales and Slovakia (6 September) on Thursday.

He will be without Pavel Nedved and Karel Poborsky, who retired from competitive international duty after the World Cup.
