The following extracts taken from the Assembly Government reports explain what the Assembly means by a Strategy For Older People in Wales:
The Strategy for Older People in Wales was launched on 30th January 2003.
The Strategy aims to provide a basis for the Welsh Assembly Government and other public bodies to develop future policies and plans that reflect the needs of older people living in Wales today, and in the future.
Ten Million pounds has been made available by the Welsh Assembly Government (WAG) to implement the twenty-one recommendations of the Strategy. Assembly. Ministers have made clear that local authorities should play a leading role in taking forward the Strategy through Community Plans and Health and Well-Being Strategies, but also with the firm involvement of the NHS, voluntary and independent sectors and of course oder people themselves. A substantial proportion of the available funding (80%) is being made available to Local Authorities.
A Development Officer/Co-ordinator plus on-costs and resources for establishing local champions and forums for older people funded to a maximum of £35,000.
