About Us
In 1997 Founder/Director Jay Coleman shared a dream of setting up a charity performance.
He invited few friends to meet and by the end of the evening the structure of the show was born. He set about gathering a few of the best performers in the area for the show and invited a local Musical Director to assist in bringing the dream to life.
A few months later on the eve of December 6th, the show took place at the Congress Theatre, Cwmbran, to a 'sell out' audience, with a response and reviews that none involved could have imagined to have been possible.
One of the tunes within the show was 'We Are What We Are' from 'La Cage Aux Folles' and told the story of equality and acceptance within in life, but in a fun way. Jay thought this would be a great way to take a group of people with immense talent beyond one night, echoing the story of the song within the aims of the group.
On that wonderful eve was born 'We Are What We Are Musical Theatre Company'. So called as we stand fast in our belief that we are all human beings and discrimination of any kind for any reason, does not have a place on our stage or in our company, which has a Zero Tolerance Policy.
The company has since gone from strength to strength, with the help of Miss Vicci Smith alongside Jay at the helm and a superb core team.
We have had many fantastic performances over the past few years with outstanding reviews and full houses to our name.
We stand fast in our belief that we are all human beings and no matter what or who we are, 'We Are What We Are' and we exist to have fun within the parimeters of honesty decency and responsibility.
