 Where It Began

In 1993 the Congress Youth Theatre was created as a not-for-profit youth theatre company, with a clear purpose, to provide young people - aged between 8-21) who might never have experienced this art form before, an opportunity to explore theatre in a supportive and professional atmosphere.

The Facts

The Congress Youth Theatre is an umbrella charity organization with it's own constitution, in connection with the Congress Theatre Cwmbran.

The company regularly perform at the Congress Theatre, a 319 seat venue, that is used for professional and community productions.

Tha company at present consists of 120 members, with a large waiting list. We cover the whole area of Torfaen, with members from the majority of local schools.

Mission Statement

In the current educational climate much emphasis is placed on formal learning. Youth Theatre can create and provide an informal environment where its members subconsciously learn skills within the Performing Arts.

In response to the current "pop idol" culture, we believe the importance of a wider and more varied understanding and appreciation of the arts.

A not-for-profit youth theatre company, for a clear purpose, to provide young people who might never have experienced this art form before, an opportunity to explore theatre in a supportive and professional atmosphere.
