National Poetry Day 2005

Slow Down By B P Blanks

The world would be a far better place

If we lived at a slower pace

Instead of this frenzied fast lane race.

No time to welcome a friendly face.

We must get here, we must follow there,

To top of the ladder, anywhere.

Brief wave to neighbour, no time to spare,

To look in a face, see quiet dispair.

World turns on its axis, run or walk -

Slow down, look around, make space to talk

To a lonely soul as you stroll in the park,

Bring a smile to a face, a light in the dark.
