National Poetry Day 2005

Sir by Kate Davies

Sir it saddens me to see

that the lunacy of this world

is tolerated by some politicians.

Are they mad! Or is our world

full of mad men, in one big asylum?

Sir I beg you to listen.

What is life worth

when it's not safe to go out

and smell the flowers and hedgerows

Do you think they'll drop the bomb

Sir please listen.

War is bloody,

that is why we speak of peace.
