The Healthy Vegetarian by Ken Marshall
Alas poor Reggie, for I knew him well
A true Vegetarian he,
He lived on apples, and oats and nuts
And honey from the bumble bee.
In a thousand years he wouldn't touch beef
He adored eating lettuce and beans
His children's skin was healthy and clear
They always ate up their greens.
He joined the marches, and climbed the trees
And stopped the transport of lambs
Then chained himself to railings
He spray- painted cartons of hams.
But now, be warned the story is sad
And the ending closes to the door
We never know from day to day
The surprise fate has in store.
A greengrocer's van, with failing brakes,
Smashed into Reggie's abode
Bananas and cabbages avalanched down
As our hero stepped out to the road.
So now it's goodbye, and a fond farewell,
To our role-model, dear old Reg
True to his principles right up to the end
Finished off by a surfeit- of fruit and veg!
