National Poetry Day 2004

Seven by Vashti Brown

It was at the age of seven

That my first visit

To great grandfather

Was my idea of heaven.

Is home was set out in the countryside

A home in a landscape of colour,

With fruit growing on either side.

Orange, pineapple, mango and grapefruit

Great grandfather always stood in the yard

Proudly viewing the display

Wearing his khaki suit.

We drank homemade lemonade

And picked fruit all day.

Then when all the jobs were done

We ate out in the sun.

A poetry site that encourages people to participate by sending in their contributions.
