Review of the band Star of 59
Formed in October 2003, Star of 59, are no stranger to work. It was almost a bear before these guys let their material loose on the music loving public, as they oped to perfect their original sound. Eraze's very own Mark Henson became the bands manager in October 2004, so he managed to persuade Rhys and Liam to give us a bit of insight into the history of Star of 59.
Originally called White Noise, but with the arrival of a new bassist in the form of Rhys it was time for a change. Finally deciding on the name Stat of 59, why that name we can only imagine, as only a few people know the real reason behind that particular choice. But if you do know the reason why, well done you! (it would also be good to know the reason ourselves as we are well and truly stumped!) and the boys are giving nothing away. To describe their music, Rhys says,
"Our music has a punk edge with the melody structure of classic rock, however our riffs are very modern and in a way quite funky"
This band is a favourite in Caldicot and Cheptow and are spreading their sound throughout South Wales and venturing as far as London. They played their first gig in Camden in January of this year and have since acquired an agent fromLondon, they're also playing a gig there later this month.
Following their debut EP 'Mistreated' last year and their ever trawling round the country, Star of 59 have managed to release their recent EP entitled 'Two Feet Dive In' which can be heard on www.isound.com|. So what's next for Star of 59, according to Liam "we're just a bit tired of the music scene at the moment. To me it's all just a bit boring. There's about 50 new bands coming out a day that all sound exactly the same as the last 50. Nothing's exciting anymore. So we just wanna play some brilliant rock music that people can dance, mosh and just have fun to. That's why we love playing live so much".
