Caerleon Trip

Thanks go to Miss Williams and Mrs Morgan for taking the children to Caerleon. They had a fantastic time dressing up and going back in time. Feedback was very positive and the children behaved very well.

St Fagans

Reception managed to dodge the clouds and stay dry for their trip to St Fagans. They had a fantastic tile learning about houses through the time. Thanks to Mrs Wilkins and all the parent helpers who made it such a fun day for the children of our school.

Pinocchio

M and N Productions came to the school once again. This time it was Pinocchio – Wow! what a performance. The children had a fantastic time. Thanks to Mrs Mathews for organising and money counting.

St David's Day

Well, not just one day – a whole week. The school got into the Welsh spirit and celebrated all week, learning about Welsh artists, writers, musicians and welsh life. Children dressed up and the Free Press came to photograph our celebrations. What a week. Our Media 4 Schools team made a DVD of the festivities and is on sale in school for £5 each. Phone us on 01495 772637.

Big Beat Project

Last year Chrys Blanchard worked with the year5/6 pupils for Pontypool Carnival. She Came back and worked with year 5. The project was called Big Beat and was in partnership with Gwent Music Support Services. The Big Beat Festival was on the 28th March. It was a full musical day. The children were a credit to their community. Thanks to Mrs Hands for all her hard work

Media 4 Wales

Media for Wales is a new and exciting project that is being run in Victoria.

What is it?

  • A school run television studio
  • A fund raising opportunity
  • An ICT learning tool
  • A log book
  • An amazing opportunity

The project is run by the children themselves and they are supported by E Uren and C Hands.

It is hoped that the production team will pass on their learned skills to new pupils each year, this enabling the project to continue.

Victoria Primary is one of the first Primary Schools in Wales to be involved in the Media 4 Schools project

Environmental

Mrs Williams is the school’s environmnent coordinator. We now have an established ECO Committee who are being proactive in the gathering of data. We have achieved the Bronze award and have nearly completed the Silver Award. We are working to get the Green Falg for Victoria to show that we are sustaining our environment. The staff meetings this half term have been dedicated to the sharing of ideas and ways of moving forwards as a school. Staff have integrating ideas into their planning to give pupils full environmnetal opportunities.

Hilston Park And Gilwern

This year for the 1st time, our year five children went wasy to Gilwern. Year 6 went to Hilston Park for a change. The children had a fantastic time learning how to problem solve, work together and solve difficulties. The instructors as ever were patient and encouraging and the staff were enthusiastic and by the end of it – very tired. The children were once again a credit to the school.

Healthy Schools

We are in our second year this year and are busily working to make Victoria a healthy place for the children. Fruit tuck shop and fruit tasting are just some of the things that we are doing.
