Victoria Abersychan Talywain Neighbourhood Group (VAT)
Law and Order
We welcomed our new PCSO Euan Powell. to our April meeting.
P.C.Richardson reported an improvment at the British/Castlewood area with regard to off road motorcycle use and its subsequent noise annoyance to those living close by. Several Section 59 notices have been issued which would see a return of the policy whereby some bikes are being confiscated. Several local individuals have recently received custodial sentences for acts of assualt, with another due in court for being in breach of his ASBO.
Traffic
Following our support for a pedestrian crossing near Talywaun post office, a comprehensive survey was carried out by the traffic department and a full report shown to the residents stated that neither the traffic flow or the number of pedestrians crossing the road met the required criteria.
Cycle Track
A section of the route, especially between the two bridges from Commercial Road to the Viaduct, is being used for fly tipping and is a blight on our community. With the number of residents and visitors using the route this reflects badly on us all. It is hoped that funding can be obtained with a view to improving the area. of flooding particularly in front of access at Talywain Station. There is also a concern about the improved run offs required in the vicinity of the Station Road access in both directions.
Future Projects
The group plan to fund a better disabled access to the Talywaun OAP Hall on Church Road , Talywain and we would welcome suggestions from anyone in the community who would like to see something improved or added to their community.
Eastern Valley Housing Association
There have been a number of points raised with EVHA relating to:
Bus Stop Opposite British School Close
A request to move the bus inside the pavement when developing this site was made but, disappointingly, their engineers said that this wasn’t possible given the layout of the site.
Old Catholic Church
Concern had been expressed about the number of children around this empty building with its potential for accidents and also vandalism. A suggestion that a fence was needed along the Station Road side of the grounds was considered but not thought necessary because EVHA had only suffered two instances of vandalism, and the church had also been made safe. We asked about their future intentions for this building but EVHA haven’t yet come to a decision on that issue.
