Christmas Trees.

We reported in the previous newsletter that we would seek an explanation from council on why the Christmas tree was not working at the Millennium Hall Garndiffaith and the Talywain Pensioners Hall. That explanation has now been given, the reason for the Millennium Hall -It fell down and there was a delay in putting the tree back up, and at the Pensioners Hall, Vandalism and the electric or RCD kept tripping inside the hall, which the contractors said, this is what it is designed to do.

It as been suggested we look for an alternative location for the tree at the Talywain Pensioners Hall because of the yearly problems over its present location.

Environmental Grants.

Garnteg Primary and Ysgol Bryn Onnen and Victory Primary to be approved for a Environmental grant.

Heads We win –Valley Funding.

At the Planning and Environment meeting held on March 14th 2007, Mr. Bill Hill, Head of the regeneration at Torfaen council, attended a meeting to explain the Heads of the Valley Programme. He explained that the Heads of the Valley Initiative is a Partnership of 5 local authority’s. which covers Abersychan. He informed the meeting that the Heads of the Valley strategy was of central importance as it is designed to raise the profile of the Valleys. He informed the meeting that a substantial sum of money has been put into the heads of the valley strategy pot over a 10-year period. In the year 2006/7 Torfaen were offered £1million to bring about changes, in October of 2006 they were presented with another £2.2 million. Mr. Hill informed the committee that extra money would be available this autumn and he asked the community council to suggest any projects that they wish to be considered.
