Isle of Wight
As with many places your lasting memory and enjoyment depends to some extent on where you actually stay. On this trip we decided to push the boat out and we chose a secluded manor house in its own grounds.
Rhylstone Manor in Shanklin was the perfect setting for a week of relaxation, excellent cuisine and dare I say decadent accommodation. From the very moment we arrived we were welcomed with courtesy and interest and this continued throughout our stay.
The entire staff showed a lot of interest in the Harley and the owners were particularly helpful when it came to park up for the evening, by shuffling their cars around so the bike could be under cover.
I would say that we both prefered Shanklin and Ventnor. You still get that unspiolt feeling as the beaches are not overcrowded or tacky. There are many pub resturants to choose from each with their own unique charm.
Other places to see include Cowes, which is quite yachty.
Godshill and Shanklin have several thatched buildings and are both very quaint and well worth a visit. The locally caught crab, with a cold pint, is to be recommended.
Osbourne House was also quite interesting.
