About Us
What does GOS do?
GOS provides the opportunity for the people of Gwent to further their appreciation of birdlife and to support an organisation that aims to preserve and improve the environment.
GOS owns a nature reserve…Goytre House Wood is a mature wood adjacent to the Mon-Brecon canal. The wood is home to a variety of wildlife including several species of bat as well as birds such as Spotted & Pied Flyctcher and all three resident woodpeckers.
GOS recently assisted Gwent Wildlife Trust in the purchase of an area of moorland near Magor.
GOS involves itself in local development issues and is forthright in making a stance to protect the countryside of Gwent.
GOS conducts surveys to monitor birdlife; it’s members have recently finished a 6 year project to note the species of bird breeding throughout Gwent…the results are to be published in the near future. ( this will be a successor to the society’s 1981-85 breeding atlas )
www.gwentbirds.org.uk is the GOS website. A visit here will illustrate what we have to offer the people of Gwent.
