Supported Events 2007

The society has attended several organised events through out the year, as a club or by individual members. The shows being a time to meet up with friends who are members of other clubs.                                                 (Photos of the events.)|

The main events the society visited as a Club is as follows.

South Wales Model and Craft Show at Bridgend in March/April

The usual society members attended the show and put on a good display of a variety of model boats. Two of the members boats being photographed by Marine Model International and used in an article called Simply Scale in their August publication. From the caption on Clives picture the society has a new Chairperson, news to the Society members and Derek, our existing Chairman. As the vast majority of the show was indoors the weather, cold did not stop a large volume of public support over the three days of the show.

Cwmbran Carnival in June

Again the usual society members attended the show and put on a good display of a variety of model boats. We managed to erect the club stand and put the boats on display before the rain started. It rained on and off through out the day, the majority of the time being dry for the general public to walk around all the stalls on the display field.

Woodsprings Model Club Open Day at Portishead in July

Again the usual society members attended the show, but this time due to the rain that lasted most of the morning, the societys members boats stayed in the back of their cars, only being brought out to sail. Woodsprings being lucky to have its own clubhouse put on hot drinks for those people that attended and put on a fine spread of food at lunchtime. They also erected their own gazebo on the hard standing between their clubhouse and lake for people to stand under and sail. In the afternoon some fine weather arrived, along with one or two members of the public who came to have a look at the boats on the lake. Our thanks are again extended to the Woodsprings members for their excellent hospitality.

Brynbach Model Boat Club Open Day at Tredegar in July

Another Open Day spoilt by the weather, it played its part and reduced the possibility of greater public interaction on the day. Again the usual society members attended the show along with other visiting clubs and put on a good display of a variety of model boats, all be it the ground that the gazebos were erected on was well saturated and turned muddy after being walked on. The day itself being mostly dry, overcast with light winds. The large lake itself is set in parkland and most of the visiting and Park modellers sailed through out the day. The Park has an excellent cafe were most of the society and visiting modellers had mid day meals that were plentiful and not expensive. Our thanks are again extended to the Brynbach Park members for inviting the Society to its Open Day.
